County Elected Officials
Lanny Openshaw was elected to the Union County Board of Commissioners in 2006. He was elected Chairman in 2008. A resident of North Carolina since 1988, he has served on The Village of Marvin Planning Board and the Village Council – recently as Mayor Pro Tem.
Commissioner Openshaw was born in Manhattan, New York. He graduated with a B.A. from United States International University in San Diego, California.
Lanny and his wife Mary have 4 children and 5 grandchildren. He has lived in seven states, residing primarily in Connecticut. He has lived in, or visited, 14 countries.
Commissioner Openshaw’s career has ranged from being personal assistant to anchorman Harry Reasoner at ABC National News in New York City, to a career as a real estate broker – predominately in Darien, Connecticut.
Learning about the formative value of Lacrosse from his children, Commissioner Openshaw became a founder of the Weddington High School Lacrosse Team, as well as a founder of Union County Lacrosse, where he serves on the board. He co-coached the Weddington Middle School Lacrosse Team for three seasons.

Kim Rogers was elected to the Union County Board of Commissioners in 2008. She was elected Vice-Chairman in 2008. She graduated Magna Cum Lauda from Pfeiffer Univeersity with a B.S. in business.
Kim and her husband Michael have been married for 19 years and have 2 daughters, Brittany and Jenna. She has been a resident of North Carolina since 1989.

Allan Baucom was elected to the Union County Board of Commissioners in 2006. He was elected Vice Chairman in 2006 and Chairman in 2007. He is a life long resident of Union County, attending New Salem and Piedmont schools.
Commissioner Baucom attended N.C. State University, majoring in agronomy. He and his wife Marie, also a life long resident of Union County from the Marshville area, live in the New Salem area in the northern end of the county. They have four children and five grand children.
Mr. Baucom is a farmer and business owner. He has been, and is currently, involved in many business, civic and non-profit organizations at the local, state and national levels. This election to the Union County Board of Commissioners was his first attempt at public office.
Commissioner Baucon is committed to the growth of the business and commercial areas, protecting property rights, providing needed services to the citizens, and minimizing the tax burden. His vision is to meet the challenges of a growing and progressive county in a business manner.

Parker Mills was elected to the Union County Board of Commissioners in 2006. He previously served on the board from 1990 – 1994. At the age of 28, he was the youngest County Commissioner ever elected in Union County. He is a graduate of Monroe High School and Appalachian State University with a BSBA in finance and management.
Commissioner Mills is the owner of Mills Cleaners and Royal Cleaners. He and his wife of 20 years, Tammie, have three daughters – Morgan 15, Allie 13 and Louise 5. He and his wife are members of Weddington United Methodist Church.

Tracy Kuehler was elected to the Union County Board of Commissioners in 2008. She currently is finishing a Science of Management degree at Montreat College and plans on attending the Charlotte School of Law after their accreditation.
Commissioner Kuehler works as a legal researcher and independent contractor for a law firm in Rock Hill, SC. Tracy and her husband have been married for 17 years and have two sons. She has lived in the Charlotte area for the last 20 years and the last 5 years in the Waxhaw/Wesley Chapel area.

J.R. Rowell was elected Clerk of Superior Court for Union County in November 2006. He is a Union County native and a graduate of Parkwood High School. J.R. also graduated from Gardner-Webb University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Science and a minor in Criminal Justice. J.R. also earned a Master of Science Degree from Pfeiffer University in Organizational Management.
Before being elected Clerk , J.R. served as a trooper, sergeant, and first sergeant with the North Carolina Highway Patrol from 1987 until he was sworn in as Clerk of Superior Court in December 2006. J.R. and his wife Rita have two children. His daughter Melody is a student at Duke University and his son Kane is a senior at Parkwood High School. J.R. and his family attend the West Monroe Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon and usher.

Crystal Crump was elected Register of Deeds for Union County in November 2004. Crystal was re-elected to the office in November 2008.
Crystal Crump is a Union County native and a graduate of Sun Valley High School. Crystal graduated from King’s College and worked as a legal secretary and real estate paralegal from 1990 until being sworn in as Regiater of Deeds for Union County. Crystal is married and has two children. Crystal and her family attend Pleasant Plains Baptist Church where she currently serves as Church Clerk.
