Richard Johnson for N.C. House District 55
Proven Conservative Leadership
Date: January 13, 2012 Contact: Richard Johnson (704) 694-8736
Wadesboro—Today, January 13, 2012, Richard Johnson formally announced his candidacy for North Carolina State House. Mr. Johnson, of Wadesboro, is running for the Republican nomination in district 55. Mr. Johnson stated, “After careful prayer and meaningful discussions with my family and friends, it has become clear that the time is right to run for this office. As a husband, father of four, and grandfather of thirteen, I have become more alarmed than ever that our government is eroding the freedoms that made our nation and our state great. I have lived in this district my entire life and my family still lives here. It is time to restore our conservative values.”
“The newly redrawn district which includes all of Anson County and more of Union County has never had true conservative representation. As a former farmer and current small business owner, our state government has continually eroded the freedom business owners need to grow, create jobs and provide for our families and communities,” Johnson added.
Mr. Johnson laid out four key issues that he will be focusing on this election cycle which include:
- Jobs. Our state needs to realize that government doesn’t create jobs. We must work to reduce the burdensome regulations placed on our businesses.
- Reduce wasteful spending and reduce taxes. Democrats have controlled this state for over 100 years. Working with the new Republican majority to accomplish this takes time and business owners are needed more than ever to help make this happen.
- Education. With so many men and women out of work, it’s time to re-think what we do with our education. We need to ensure that our high schools and community colleges are equipped to teach valuable vocational education needed to restore our state economy.
- Conservative and traditional values. As a pro-life, pro-marriage conservative and also as a proud member of the NRA and supporter of the 2nd Amendment, it’s time that the people of this district had a representative that valued these sacred institutions.
“Over the next few weeks I will announce my campaign structure and report on my campaign finances,” Johnson stated. “I have worked hard to secure key endorsements from both counties and have put together a solid campaign finance team to help me communicate this message to my fellow conservative voters. I look forward to listening and learning more from the residents of District 55 throughout this campaign.”
Mr. Johnson is a resident of Wadesboro and owns Johnson Insurance Management. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Wadesboro where he serves as Deacon. He also is Presidentof Pee Dee Electric, a North Carolina Rural Electric Cooperative, as well as a board member of the NC Electric Membership Corporation. He has served on many committees and was a former school board member of Anson County. For more information about Mr. Johnson please visit www.richardjohnsonnchouse.com.

Non-partisan training session sponsored by NC Electric Co-op
Inexperienced candidates often undercut their own efforts because they do not understand the basics of campaigns. The public, and your campaign resources, are better served by candidates who have a good message and have an idea of how to communicate their messages to the voters. To help candidates run better, more knowledgeable campaigns, North Carolina’s electric cooperatives in conjunction with the North Carolina Credit Union League will again sponsor three non-partisan Campaign Academies in early February.
Electric cooperatives and credit unions across the country have helped hundreds of candidates at similar seminars. Past participants include candidates for Congress, the NC General Assembly, Sheriff, County Commissioner, Register of Deeds, Clerk of Court, and numerous volunteers to campaigns.
The Campaign Academy is open to candidates new to the election process, incumbents who want a refresher, and other party/campaign officials or volunteers. During the seminar, taught by professionals with campaign experience, potential candidates will learn the basic set-up of a campaign and the financial commitment required. The training comes at an affordable cost of $30 for participants.
